Conversations with Sundari Patrons ft. Srekala Bharath

Our customers are at the heart of everything we do. Over the years, we have gained many loyal customers who are now a part of our Sundari Silks family. This festive season, we are thrilled to feature our Sundari Patrons, 6 inspiring women who have a long-standing relationship with Sundari Silks. The common thread that unites them is the emotional bond they share with us. Most of them, have been our customers since the very beginning and have played a huge part in making our journey so beautiful.

When we reached out to these 6 remarkable women, they were more than happy to pose in our Diwali Collection and also chatted with us about their love for Sarees, personal style and nostalgic memories with Sundari Silks.

Presenting to you, Srekala Bharath, a professional Bharatanatyam dancer, teacher and choreographer, who has been dancing to the beats of her dreams since the age of 8. She always has a graceful smile on her face and is a personification of the Modern Indian woman.

Here are a few excerpts from the chat session.

How did your tryst with Sundari Silks begin?

Sundari Silks is like a second home to me and my association with the shop goes long back. When I got married, all my sarees were picked from Rajaram’s father's shop. When Rajaram started Sundari Silks, I fell in love with their sarees. Even their Collection for Kids, Pavadai Sets is so good. When I go to that section of the shop, I spend a minimum of 2 hours there. I am now attached to the next generation as well, Manmohan, Pavithra, Shankar and Radha. The entire family is down-to-earth. In fact, Rajaram calls me his sister.

The one thing you like the most about Sundari Silks.

Sundari silks is just attached to me. When you go there, the warmth that you receive right from the attendees who are at the gate is amazing. The hospitality is so good that you will not feel like going back to your home. . The owners will behave like it is not their shop, but ours. This is the one thing I like the most about Sundari Now Manmohan has now brought in the Athirshtam Jewellery section, which is excellent.

Describe your personal style.

I like to be simple and elegant. I also like to be grand. But my choice of that simple, elegant and grand, I get that at Sundari Silks. Be it subtle colours, bright colours or earth colours, they have such a wide range of collections. So it just matches very well with me.

Favourite purchase from Sundari Silks.

2019 was a milestone year for me. I completed 50 years of dancing and it was also the 20th anniversary of my dance school Thejas. I purchased a Silver with Gold Kanjivaram Silk Saree. The silver colour to match the silver jubilee of my dance school and gold to match the golden jubilee of my dance.  Around the same time, one of my students had their arangetram function. For that, I purchased a gold colour Kanjivaram Silk Saree. It is such an amazing saree. Its got subtlety, and grandness and is very elegant. These two sarees are my hot favourites.

What brings you back to Sundari Silks?

My mother and mother-in-law always tell, “If our daughter can look good in a 500 rupees saree, 5000 rupees saree and even a 50,000 rupees saree, it can be got only from Sundari Silks.” That is exactly what brings me back to Sundari Silks. Every Friday, I go to Santhoshi Mata temple in Virugambakkam and while coming back I love to do some window shopping at Sundari. If I like something I just pick it up. As I mentioned before, Sundari is just attached to me.

What is the first word which comes to your mind when you hear Sundari Silks?
