How to style a sheer and delicate saree?
Sarees symbolise India’s ageless traditions, heritage, culture and craftsmanship. But at the heart, each fabric has its own distinctive personality and properties. It is important to understand their nature so that you can wear them in the best way possible. On that note, we would like to introduce ‘Sundari Style Statement’, a series of blogs where we explore different styling and draping methods.
Sheer sarees are semi-transparent and require extra attention while draping. These diaphanous beauties, when worn perfectly, exude an aura of grace and elegance. In this blog, we will discuss a few styling ideas for sheer and delicate saree.
Pallu Pleating:
Avoid pleating a delicate saree as they keep expanding at each pleat. Instead, reduce the number of pleats or leave the pallu free-flowing by pinning it over your shoulder. This will add a new dimension to the overall look, allowing you to flaunt your curves.
Blouse:
The best way to wear a sheer saree is by pairing them with embroidered or printed blouses. Since the sarees are transparent, a well-fitted blouse is extremely important to give a nice finish to the look. You can also accentuate the sheen of your organza drapes by opting for blouses with handiwork in the back like embroidery, sequins or lace. We also recommend going for a sleeveless blouse as it is aesthetically appealing. If you are not comfortable wearing a sleeveless blouse, go for an elbow length blouse with no lining material and a transparent sleeve length.
Petticoat:
Petticoat is the base garment and is often overlooked when it comes to styling. To achieve a perfectly sleek look, opt for a satin petticoat in a matching colour as your petticoat will be visible under the saree. Make sure it is in the correct length, neither short nor too long. Avoid wearing the wide cotton petticoats as they are not designed for delicate and transparent sarees.
Accessories and Makeup:
We recommend wearing minimal accessories so that the saree steals the spotlight. Diamonds give a classy finish to organza, mesh or netted sarees. Wear a dainty necklace, studded earrings, stilettos, open hair, dewy makeup and you are good to go!
The most important tip is to wear your transparent drapes with confidence. At Sundari Silks, we have a wide selection of diaphanous sarees that will wrap you in an air of elegance and ease for any occasion. Do try out these tricks and tag us on Instagram @sundari_silks.
