The early history of towels can be traced back to the Turkish empire when it was used during the ceremonial bathing rituals of future brides in hammams. Initially, it resembled a flat, woven piece of hand-embroidered cloth called a “pestarnel”. Today, it has become an everyday staple and is made of cotton and linen.
