Retain the shine on your silver jewellery

Gorgeous, scintillating and breathtaking are just a few adjectives to describe silver jewellery. Each piece of silver you own is encrusted with fascinating stories and exquisite designs. Silver jewellery storage and care is nothing short of an art, and it necessitates a great deal of attention to ensure that it never loses its lustre and looks shiny every time you put it on. Here are a few easy ways to care for your silver valuables at home.

Washing

Mild Detergent

One of the simplest methods to clean your silver jewellery at home is using a mild detergent and a soft toothbrush.

Use a soft toothbrush to gently scrub the dirt off the jewellery and rinse them in lukewarm water again. Use a soft toothbrush instead of a hard one to avoid scrapes and scratches.

Baking Soda

One of the most popular methods to clean your silver jewellery at home is the baking soda-aluminium foil process.

To begin, bring 2 cups of water to a boil and add a tablespoon of baking soda to it. Meanwhile, line your sink or a vessel with aluminium foil. Fill the bowl with the baking soda-water solution and immediately soak your silver jewellery into it for 10 minutes.

Make sure that the jewellery is in contact with the aluminium foil in order for the chemical reaction to take place. Remove the silver article from the solution and wash it under cool water. You'll notice that the lustre of your prized jewellery pieces has been restored.

Although this is a very popular method, we suggest you not use this method for antique silver jewellery or jewellery with a lot of precious stones. This is because baking soda can be abrasive, causing tarnishing to occur more quickly. This technique can be used if you need a quick fix for an occasion. Otherwise, we recommend washing them once a month with a light detergent.

Storage

After washing your silver articles, air-dry them or towel dry them. You can now store the valuables by wrapping them up in an old cotton dhoti, muslin cloth or butter paper. Never store them in plastic bags, as this traps moisture and speeds up tarnishing.

When you're done wearing your silver jewellery, clean it with a tissue before putting it back in its box. Store each piece of jewellery separately to avoid scratches from rubbing against one another.

Ensure that they are stored in airtight containers away from direct sunlight. Clean them at least once a month to ensure that they retain their lustre and brilliance.

We hope these tips prove effective in taking care of your silver possessions at home. Do give these tips a shot and let us know if they worked for you.
